The Legendary Kim Phuc, and the First Female Minister Ever in Kuwait, Dr. Massouma Al Mubarak are amongst other Top Women Honored at the 5th Middle East Women’s Achievement Awards

The 5th Middle East Businesswomen and Leaders Achievement Awards were presented at a very special ceremony today at the Burj Al Arab, Dubai, UAE. This event organized annually by Middle East Excellence Awards Institute to mark the International Women’s Day recognizing notable achievements among women professionals in the Middle East.

 

Dr. Mervat Tellawy, Executive Secretary of United Nation’s Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) was the chief guest of the function and Ms. Raja Al Gurg, President of Dubai Businesswomen’s Council delivered the keynote address.

 

The awards recognized and honored Middle East women for their achievements under various categories such as management, information and communication technology, entrepreneurship, education, banking, media and sports.

 

Ali Al Kamali, Director, Middle East Excellence Awards Institute said, “Women are relatively quiet contributors to the economy, but women in the Middle East have made notable contributions to practically all areas of business and management. The awards help to focus on women as key players in the region’s economic growth and highlight their contributions and bring out constructive recommendations to better their participation. It directs them towards greater aspirations in their professional lives and will provide them with a new perspective on their role as leaders.”

 

The winners of the 5th Middle East Women’s Achievement Awards were:

 

Middle East Woman of the Year - Dr. Masouma Al Mubarak, Minister of Planning, Kuwait

Dr. Masouma Al Mubarak was awarded for her display of excellence and success in Middle East organizations. The nominee's flair for innovation, performance, and personal commitment to her profession and community did not only win her this award, but gave her a spot in history books as the first female minister of Kuwait.

 

Middle East Businesswomen of the Year - Ms. Faiza Al Sayed, Managing Director, Ethan Allen

Ms. Faiza Al Sayed has demonstrated the vision, flair, drive and business acumen to take her business forward. The award commended her great work which had created a successful business model. Her success has provided a beacon for others to follow.

 

 

 

Middle East ICT Woman of the Year - Ms. Sherifa Hady, Consumer Business Manager, HP Middle East. This award recognized Ms. Sherifa Hady’s achievements that have driven technology innovations in the region. It highlighted her path breaking work in the field of information and communication technology.

 

Middle East Woman Banker of the Year -  Dr. Nahed Mohammed Taher, CEO, Gulf One Investment Bank. The 'Middle East Women Banker of the Year Award' was awarded to Dr. Nahed Mohammed Taher, whose professional achievements and personal integrity have made her an Icon within the Middle East banking and finance industry. Her career achievements and contribution show women's roles have changed in all aspects of the Middle East banking.

 

Middle East Media Woman of the Year - Ms. Hazleen Ahmed Director, Corporate Communications, Gulf Finance House.  Ms. Hazleen Ahmed has made the best contributions by a woman to the regional media industry; Her understanding of the media requirements of her organization and her vision to skillfully use available media opportunity to successfully project her organization wins her this award.

 

Lifetime Achievement Award - Ms. Kim Phuc UN Goodwill Ambassador

The honorable, internationally known and recognized legend, Ms. Kim Phuc was awarded the lifetime achievement award for her outstanding contributions to the overall development of the society. This award means recognition of the visionary who has driven social changes and innovations throughout the globe.

 

Special Award - Late Ms. Atwar Bahjat

This award honored Late Ms. Atwar Bahjat, the highly respected Al Arabiya correspondent who was shot to death in Iraq recently.  She has shown commitment, loyalty, and, dedication to her work from the beginning, and until the very end of her career.   

 

The Awards were supported by Dubai Businesswomen Council, Asprey London and Crystal Arc.
